iMod - Cape Town blog by Chris M se Notas
I received this email this evening and it really made me smile..
“Hi Chris,
I must say ever since I have subscribed to imod, you have been an inspiration in many ways. From me starting my own blog, to working my adsense account, to even purchasing a Lenovo S10!
I now have tons to learn and will slowly get there, but I have to say thank you.”
It’s not uncommon for me to receive emails, tweets and even text and phone calls from people who’ve followed my blog and decided to do it on their own, but some just stand out from the rest and inspire me to keep motivated.
Thanks Jeetesh, this made my day!
We’ve really had some fantastic weather recently, but like Cape Town always does, with some sun, comes some rain and that’s what we’re in for..
Fortunately it looks like things will be clearing up again next week!
How many times have you been caught with a bottle of wine but no bottle opener? IF you’re like me, you’ll be familiar with this feeling and will be able to relate to the frustration.
After being sent this video by a number of iMod readers, I decided that I would publish it because I often do wine reviews and this ties in nicely..
How’s that for a party trick?!?!!
We’ve all had an iPhone or a iTouch or a device of that nature, which looks stunning when it comes out the box, but after a couple weeks, it gets a scratch and it loses that wonderfully sexy feel. Ye, you know what I mean don’t you?
Well, these two videos will show you a cool trick on how to brush your chrome bezel to allow those scratches to look like they’re designer additions:
Quite a cool idea don’t you think?
It’s a “Why didn’t I think of that”?
quirky’s Beamer is an iphone case with a built in light. This light can dual function as a flash for your iphone’s camera as well as a light for use whenever you see fit – Dropped something under the table at dinner? Need a flashlight for your car? Squinting to read a menu in candlelight? Taking a picture in the dark? Beamer is the case that shines!

Beamer is a hard, durable plastic case with a friction-fit, 2 piece design. Beamer’s base slides out for quick insertion of your iphone. Turning on the light is easy. Simply press the silicone button once and the light will remain on for 10 seconds – leaving you with enough time to snap your picture. Pressing the button twice in a row will leave the light on indefinitely until you are ready to turn it off – to do so, just press the button a 3rd time.
Beamer’s super bright LED is powered by its own battery (residing on the inside of the case) so it does not drain any of your iphone’s battery. And not to worry, the button is set in a groove to avoid being accidentally turned on when in your pocket thus keeping the battery alive as long as possible.

You can choose from one of quirky’s funky case colors. With the Beamer, all you iPhone-ers out there need not feel jealous of your Blackberry-ing friends. Now you too can have stellar phone pictures.
You can buy one here for about 200bux!

Whether you’re a designer or a developer or someone who needs to decide on several colours which go together, using a tool like Colorjack is going to be beneficial.
One of the best features is that once you’ve found your colours, you’ll be able to export to Illustrator or Photoshop!
Getting your website to rank high in search engines is critical these days if you’re hoping to attract organic traffic. Knowing what factors get taken into account in order to rank high is critical and although the list keeps changing, here’s an accurate list of the current factors that influence your pages rank:
- Number of inbound links – The trust factor of your website and growth of natural relevant links over time.
- On-page content – Good, user focused quality website content.
- Meta tags – Well crafted and relevant Title tags, etc.
- Page authority of each page – Also known as Google Pagerank (although not as important these days).
- Alt tags – Image tags that help the user experience on each page of a website.
- Anchor text – The anchor text used on all inbound and internal linking to a website.
- Age of a Domain – How old a domain happens to be, this is part of the trust factor or domain/website authority.
- Code to Text Ratio – How much code is contained on the page in relation to the amount of relevant content on each page.
- H1 and H2 tags – Headlines of well written optimized tags
I tell you, it seems like an obvious list, but open up your website’s code and have a careful look and I can almost gaurentee that there is something you’ll be able to improve on when comparing against this list.
I can think of a number of other factors outside of this list, but these ones are definitely a good starting point.
Ford Motor Company is bringing to market the world’s first automotive inflatable seat belts, combining attributes of traditional seat belts and air bags to provide an added level of crash safety protection for rear seat occupants.
The advanced restraint system is designed to help reduce head, neck and chest injuries for rear seat passengers, often children and older passengers who can be more vulnerable to such injuries.
Ford will introduce inflatable rear seat belts on the next-generation Ford Explorer, which goes into production next year for the North American market. Over time, Ford plans to offer the technology in vehicles globally.
“Ford’s rear inflatable seat belt technology will enhance safety for rear-seat passengers of all ages, especially for young children who are more vulnerable in crashes,” said Sue Cischke, Ford group vice president of Sustainability, Environmental and Safety Engineering. “This is another unique family technology that builds on our safety leadership, including the most top safety ratings of any automaker.”
In 1993 when Demolition Man was released, they made use of secure foam, take a watch..
Interesting concept!
