Helen Zille I know how difficult it is to beat crime. But I also know that, unless government puts crime at the top of its agenda, there is no chance of winning the battle. I know that, without a dedicated, fighting-fit police force, innocent people have no chance against armed gangsters.
Helen Zille I visited the derelict slum-buildings of PE Central, the crime scene where a teenager was brutally raped & murderded and the Bethelsdorp SAPS, a police station under tremendous pressure. The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is failing the people of PE.
Helen Zille Arrived in Port Elizabeth this evening. Tomorrow I will be going on an anti-crime campaign around PE central and the Northern areas.
Helen Zille To the residents of Shayamoya, I said that I want them to know that they do not have to put up with the situation they find themselves in. We have a Constitution that places an obligation on government to do all it can to provide basic services. But toyi-toying and protest will not solve these problems. The only way is... to choose a party that takes your constitutional rights seriously.
